JOHNNY THE CATERPILLAR BOY
It was a bright, hot sunny summer day and the wind was blowing gently. Johnny had just finished breakfast and decided he would go and play outside in his backyard. He sat on his swing and began to sway back and forth. A butterfly floated by, gently flapping his wings as if it was just floating in the air. Johnny watched and wondered what it would feel like to be a butterfly. Then all of a sudden the butterfly landed on him. “Wow!” he said, “It must really like me!” Then he got this weird feeling all over. He felt like his body was getting lighter. “What’s happening?” Just then, the butterfly flew off and everything went dark. “Where am I?” He asked. He looked around and saw tall green stalks. They weren’t trees were they? He wasn’t sure what they were or what had just happened to him. He looked down and saw that he wasn’t human anymore. He was green, yellow, and black and looked like a big fat worm! He was a caterpillar! “AHHHHH!!!!” he screamed, “What happened to me?” “Where are my hands and feet?” He yelled! Then he realized that the green stalks were blades of grass and he had somehow become a caterpillar. “Oh my”, he said, “What do I do now?” Then out of nowhere the butterfly that had landed on him came down to greet him.
“Hello!” said the pretty butterfly “My name is Breezy. ” Johnny stared at her in horror. A real live butterfly was talking to him. “Sorry about what happened. I didn’t mean to scare you.”
“Well you did!” he puffed “Now change me back to a human!”
Well you see the thing is you have to become a butterfly before I can do that.” Johnny almost fainted “How long does that take and why am I so hungry!” Breezy said, “It shouldn’t take that long and the reason why your are so hungry is because you need to eat to grow so you can change into a butterfly.”
Johnny ate everything in sight until he could not eat any more and could barely even move. The next day, he ate the even more. Finally, it was time for him to settle into his cocoon to become a butterfly. In the cocoon, he had dreams of being a boy again and what he would do. He decided he would plant lots of butterfly plants around his yard just in case Breezy the butterfly came around again and turned him back into a caterpillar.

Life cycles of a butterfly:
A butterfly starts as egg that is laid on a leaf it then hatches from the egg and becomes a caterpillar. The caterpillar eats flowers and leaves constantly all day long. It molts many times as it is growing and becomes bigger each day. When the caterpillar is finished growing it’s ready to turn into pupa and goes into a cocoon. It goes through metamorphosis and comes out as a beautiful butterfly.
The purpose of butterflies in the world is to pollinate flowers by carrying pollen from one plant to another. Butterflies help make more plant seeds, fruits, and vegetables.
